It's sad to see an "old timer" leave Apple, but I'm guessing that Serlet's financially set and wants to do some "pure" research at a university before he retires. Not everyone has that luxury.
It seems that OS X will be left in good hands, though.
I read somewhere he's perhaps not happy that iOS is gaining more influence over OS X. Certainly possible imo.

Hi, I've made an app which is basically a pdf viewer with a quiz attached.
My menus are all the simple text ones, I'm wondering what's the easiest way to change these to image based menus so it looks more appealing?

there is a shipping Blu-Ray Drive from Sony right now (in reality, it's in the Vaio, the retail version, while out in SKU, ships the 1st week of August), which has a standard 5.25 form-factor and is below $1000.

Uh, genius, Apple doesn't make Blu-ray. Apple has to wait for Sony & Co to release Blu-ray drives, which we all knew would be in late 2006.

Don't you guys realize that the reason all these half credible sources are saying all this wishy washy stuff is because Apple is keeping this launch under tighter wraps than any other after what happened with the iPhone 4. Regardless of what they do, we all know it will be phenomenal and ground breaking, but I seriously doubt anyone will get a sneak peak any time soon.

It doesn't sound like all that much, Apple has a possible 100 million customers if MobileMe becomes free to use as backup. That is about 120 MB per user, pathetic. How much does Amazon have at the moment?

One other thing you can do is enable "nap mode". It lets the CPUs enter a low power state when they are idle. It does not hurt performance.
It can be enabled with the Processor prefpane included in CHUD 3.5.2 (http://www.jcsenterprises.com/Japamacs_Page/Odds_and_Ends_files/CHUD_3.5.2.dmg).
Note: on some G4s nap mode is already enabled by default.

In Australia an 18 year old can drive, drink, vote (hopefully not all at the same time), so if the government considered my child an adult I guess I would too. In a situation like this though it all comes down to the young womans parents, so they would decide I guess!

I don't think it should be a screening question, but if you are gay and know that you're "normal" and safe when it comes to sex, what are the chances you get busted for lying??

Just make sure your cable provider allows you to record from it. Make sure the signals are not encrypted.
I purchased EyeTV500 and after I figure out the only way to record HDTV was from over the air antenna. I returned it to Elgato after I found out I would have to spend good amount of money buying a really good outdoor antenna plus make holes in the wall and etc. to be able to connect it to my EyeTV and computer.
That's a good point! Grrrr... Always something. I just checked ElGato's site and they don't offer an HDTV over Sat solution that I can see.

Yeah I have permission to use the iMacs, they're my dad's and brother's, respectively, and they're both into helping out with this project, as my dad's father died of alzheimer's and my brother had cancer recently.
As far as the new computer goes, I will probably do one this year and the other the next, I just need to figure out which. The MBP would be a high end 15" i7 Sandy Bridge whenever those are ready. The PC would also be an i7 Sandy Bridge (2600k, probably overclocked a little) after the Sandy Bridge is ready again, with a GTX 570 most likely. Although I love building PCs I'm leaning towards getting a new MBP because I travel A LOT (literally half my year is normally spent away from home; I fly for an aerial mapping company) and I would really like to be able to play stuff like Civ V at good frame rates and would enjoy having a little bit more battery life for long airline flights. Not to mention the awesome cpu for compressing my blu ray collection and of course, folding. The kicker will be seeing how the specs for the new MBPs actually shake out, especially the gpu.
